Wondering the best ways to market your business on social media? We know that when starting a new business, there are tons of moving parts to get it off the ground. When you get to marketing, you may feel lost at what to do or what to prioritize with so many platforms and options at your fingertips. We’ve put together this list to help you effectively market your business on social media:
Define your target audience: Before you start marketing on social media (and in general!), you need to identify your target audience. Who are your ideal customers? What are their interests and behaviors? This information will help you create content that resonates with your target audience. If you are struggling, we have a free worksheet to help you define your audience.
Choose the right social media platforms: Not all social media platforms are created equal. You need to choose the platforms that your target audience is most active on. For example, if your target audience is primarily professionals, LinkedIn might be the best platform to focus on. If your target audience is comprised of students or Gen Z, head to TikTok.
Create engaging content: Easier said than done, but so important. Social media users are inundated with content, so you need to create content that is engaging and stands out. Use high-quality images and videos, and create content that is informative, entertaining, or both.

Use hashtags: This varies by platform, of course, but hashtags can help your content get discovered by users who are interested in your niche. Research popular hashtags in your industry and use them in your posts. PS – never use hashtags on Facebook. Research shows your audience sees them as spammy and they do almost nothing to drive reach or growth.
Engage with your audience: Social media is a two-way street. We’ve consistently seen the largest growth percentages when we spend time engaging with others. Engage with your audience by responding to comments, direct messages, and mentions, as well as with individuals within your target audience. This will help build trust and loyalty.
Run paid campaigns: While organic reach on social media can vary based on your strategy, content, etc., paid campaigns can help you reach a larger audience. You can create targeted campaigns based on demographics, interests, and behaviors.
Analyze your results: You’ll never know what’s working if you don’t analyze your data. Use social media analytics tools to track your performance. There are free analytics within every platform and TONS of third-party analytics tools available too. Knowing where you stand will help you identify what is working and what isn’t, so you can adjust your strategy accordingly.
When things aren’t making sense or you are being pulled too far away from your day-to-day to keep up with social media, you know it’s time to ask for help.
